Review: I've been a Star Wars fan since first seeing him back in 1977, at the age of thirteen. I saw new hope at least twenty times, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi more than a dozen times. I've read many novels and still continue to collect toys and figurines. I spent eight hours in line for tickets and seat, finally seeing The Phantom Menace the first day at 3:00. I wanted to like it, and make every attempt to keep open mind.But written down I can do. It was just too pathetic.Had film was made by someone else, may not be so important. But George Lucas has always insisted that edge effects are secondary to a good story. It is a shame that someone has to remind it of that. I heard Lucas say he hates to write. Well, it shows. Many of the scenes are just boring, optional filler material between sequences spectacular effects.
